Say it again.
SnipFX keeps the last take.
Select a talking-head layer and press Smart Cut. SnipFX listens to every word on your own Mac, finds the lines you said again, keeps the last complete take and cuts in the pauses. You check every cut before it happens.
- Retakes found for you: false starts, lines said again, and calls like "let's do that again"
- Every cut in a pause, so no word is clipped
- Show me first: listen to the edit and change any line before applying
- About 20 languages, plus about 80 more with Auto-detect
- Runs offline. Your audio never leaves your Mac
- Requirements: After Effects 2022+, macOS 13+
Record freely. Cut in one click.
Talk to camera the way you always do: stop, say "let's do that again", start the line over. SnipFX turns the raw take into a clean cut.
Select the layer
One layer with speech in any comp, trimmed however you like. Video and sound come along together.
Press Smart Cut
SnipFX listens on your Mac while After Effects stays free to use. Stop ends it at any time.
Check, then Apply
Every line is listed with what will happen to it. Change anything, Apply, and ⌘Z undoes it in one step.
Nothing is cut until you say so.
The review window lists every line of the clip on a waveform, says why each cut was made, and lets you listen before anything changes in your comp.
- Play the edit: hear only the kept lines, back to back, exactly as the cut will sound
- Keep or Cut any line with a click or a key (K, X). The totals update as you go
- Removed takes are kept in a separate Outtakes comp, in case you want one back
After that, we heat the vinyl slowly with a heat gun.
Speaks your language, and about 80 more.
Pick the language from the menu, or leave it on Auto-detect and SnipFX works it out from the clip. Retakes are found in every language; spoken calls like "let's do that again" are recognised in the ones listed here.
Built by an editor who was tired of scrubbing for retakes.
Three listeners
Cheetah for a quick pass, Dolphin for most clips, Whale for mixed languages and noisy rooms. Whale is a free extra download.
After Effects stays free
Listening runs in the background, so you can keep working in other comps. A bar shows how far it has got.
Nothing thrown away
Your footage isn't changed. The cut takes are laid out in an Outtakes comp, and the whole cut is one undo.
Pauses and breaths too
Switch it on to close long gaps and drop breaths with no words in them. You choose how long a pause may be.
Silence Cut, for quick jobs
Just want the pauses gone? Silence Cut trims by loudness in one click, no listening needed.
Stays on your computer
No account, no upload. SnipFX goes online only to check your licence key, and collects nothing about you or your projects.
What you need
- After EffectsAfter Effects 2022 (22.0) or later
- MacmacOS 13 Ventura or later. Apple Silicon recommended; Intel works, more slowly
- DiskAbout 1 GB, plus 1.6 GB if you add Whale
- LicenceWorks on any 2 Macs
- PrivacyNo account. It goes online only to check your licence key
Worth knowing
Retakes are found when you start the line over. A point made twice in different words isn't a retake to SnipFX, so it stays. Spot those in the review window and mark them Cut.
Listening takes a little while. On an Apple Silicon Mac, Dolphin gets through a minute of talking in about 10 to 15 seconds. Whale is slower, and Intel Macs take longer.
Your original layer isn't changed. SnipFX lays out trimmed copies of it, and if you move or trim the layer while reviewing, it refuses to apply rather than guess.
Before you install
How do I get SnipFX?
Buy it on Gumroad for $10, once. Your download and licence key arrive straight away, and one licence works on any 2 Macs.
Does my audio get uploaded anywhere?
No. SnipFX listens on your own Mac with Whisper, and works without the internet. It goes online only to check your licence key.
Will it cut something I wanted to keep?
Not without you seeing it first. With "Show me first" on, every cut is listed with its reason and you can play the edit before applying. Anything applied can be undone in one step, and the cut takes wait in the Outtakes comp.
Which languages does it understand?
English, Hinglish, Hindi, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Dutch, Polish, Russian, Turkish, Arabic, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Indonesian, Vietnamese and Thai from the menu, and about 80 more with Auto-detect.
Why does my Mac ask me to approve the installer?
SnipFX is new and not yet registered with Apple, so the first time you open the installer your Mac asks you to allow it: System Settings, then Privacy & Security, then Open Anyway. You only do this once. The User Guide in the download shows each step.
Do I need to install anything else?
No. The listening engine (Whisper and FFmpeg) and two listening models come inside the installer. No Homebrew, no Terminal, no Python.
Is there a Windows or Premiere Pro version?
Not yet. SnipFX is for After Effects on the Mac. A Windows version is in the works.
Stop scrubbing for retakes.
